Re-Walking Theories and Histories through (Sound)scapes

This digital showcase brings together the work of graduate students in the Art and Visual Culture Education program at the University of Arizona, reflecting a semester spent exploring foundational theories in the field through embodied listening practices. As part of ARE630: Historical and Theoretical Foundations of AVCE, students examined major historical shifts in art education and then “re-walked” those ideas through a series of soundwalks across Tucson, tuning into how place, sound, memory, and pedagogy intersect. The projects showcased here translate those experiences into soundscapes and visual compositions that reveal how theory can be felt, heard, and understood through movement and attentive listening.
